The Gurnee American Legion Post 771 Post Commander is Jim Walsh for 2025-2026, and the Building General Manager is Pete Mockapetris.

Welcome to Gurnee American Legion Post 771—serving local veterans and our community since 1935. Built on the four pillars of the American Legion, we are dedicated to Veterans Affairs, National Security, Americanism, and Youth.

If you’re a veteran ready to serve again, we want you on our team. We provide a brotherhood of support and help veterans navigate their benefits and resources. 


What We Do


We stay active in Gurnee through:

  • Youth & Education: College scholarships, Premier Boys State and Girls State sponsorship, and the Gurnee Riverdogs baseball team, Scouting.
  • Community Support: Honor Guard/Color Guard, Police Cadet programs, Warren High School activities, and Lovell Federal Health Care Center visits.
  • Events: Patriotic ceremonies for Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and 9/11, plus our annual Poppy Day fundraiser. 

Visit & Rent

  • Public Bar: Stop by for a drink—our bar is open to everyone!
  • Community Events: Join us for seasonal pancake breakfasts, chili cook-offs, Pernil Cook-off, and our Craft Beer Festival.

Hall Rentals: Hosting a party? We have two halls available for your next event.

•  Is your bar open to the public? Yes, the bar is open to the public. No membership is required to enjoy our great priced drinks.
• Does your post offer Honor Guard or Color Guard services for funerals or memorials? Yes, we have an honor guard that serves the Gurnee and North Chicago area. Please email Les at sergeantarms@post771.org
• Who do I contact about renting your hall? Please call Pete at (847) 244-9282.
• Does your Legion have a Veteran Service Officer? Yes, please call Jim H. at (847) 910-3330.
• Do you take old American flags that needs disposal? Yes, there is a drop box in front of the bar enry.  
• Do you have karaoke? Yes, karaoke is every Saturday night at 7pm.
• Do you have bingo? No, we no longer have bingo at our Legion post.
• Is your kitchen open or do you offer food? Our kitchen is open at various time. Please check our Facebook page for updates.  You are welcome to bring your own food to our bar.

Additional Info

Our bar is open to the public and offers some of the lowest prices for drinks around.  The bar also features video gaming which is not available anywhere else in Gurnee. The Hall rentals are also very affordable when compared to the surrounding areas.
